Velocity Cross/ North Western League Round 3 – 7 October 2012 –

Nick Craig (Scott UK) showed his class when he rode to victory in the third round of the North West League at Philips Park in Manchester on Sunday.

Veteran Craig, from Hayfield in Derbyshire, showed no ill-effects from riding the Three Peaks the previous weekend when he took the win in a race promoted by Velocity Race Team and using a location right next to the National Cycling Centre at Manchester Velodrome.

Craig soon gapped his younger rivals and soloed to victory, with Jack Humphreys (Wheelbase), a first year U23, fighting hard to hold on to second place with Peter Middleton (Zepnat) who finished third despite his best efforts.

It was in fact a day for the veterans and under-23 riders who took the first six places. The first woman was Rachel Walker and first junior Andrew Nixon.

Velocity’s own Matt Walls won the U16 event in a close fought race with Tom Rees from Luxembourg.

The course was a mixture of rolling park land, with some difficult off camber sections and the finish being up a tough tarmac climb christened the ‘Philipsberg’.

Big thanks to our sponsors PocPac and WD40 who’s support made the race possible.
