Draft changes for the 2013 AGM
Recommendations for the forthcoming NWCCA AGM on Tuesday 9th April at the Manchester Velodrome were tabled at the the last committee meeting. Please submit any further agenda items to the Secretary by the 5th April.
The major concern is the size of the fields to which a proposal will be made to split the Veteran and Ladies races with the Senior and Junior riders. The problem is the manual judging and course length for fields of 140 riders. Even if transponders are adopted subject to funding, a manual judging system still has to be actioned. We believe the quality of racing will be improved by split races, and also accomodate an aniticipated increase in field size. More helpers and officials are required to ensure the smooth running of events- with two sets of judges and helpers who are familiar with recording proceedures.
Proposed timing of events: Youth 30min duration -start 11.00, U12 15 min duration 11.45, U10 10 min duration 12.10, Vets & Ladies 40 min duration 12.45, and Senior /Junior 50 min duration starting at 14.00.
Youth races will have a shorter course of 4 minutes duration to avoid slower riders exceeding the maximum race duration on a large lap, long after the winner has finished.
A signing on cut off of 20 minutes before each event will be invoked to allow names in the race sheet to be updated prior to the start.
The use of transponders was discussed in view of creating a consitution to apply for funding, with the various options covered.
For the forthcoming AGM, a new rule is proposed to assist clubs in the promotion of events and share the non-racing activites more evenly amongst the League membership and enable the expansion if race fields that is expected.
The draft wording of the rule will be : All Individual League riders or delegate who ride in a NWCCA sanctioned Cyclo cross event, will be required to assist in a designated event. The assistance will be organised by the League secretary or delegate to consist of a questionaire with choice of two regular league race venues, offering the choice of : 1) Helping with Judging -lap scoring or shouting numbers 2) Adminstration and Data input on the Results spreadsheet 3) Marshalling or assistant to the Commissaire (pit) duties plus course preparation/tear down. By helping – average points will be allocated up to 3 events within a season.
Training will be required for items 1 & 2 to consist of either a pre-season training session, or if unavailable ,helping in an earlier event as a shadow. By registering , the rider is hereby agreeing to offer his/her assistance to the NWCCA. League Riders who offer to help and then fail to provide this service may recieve a sanction of withdrawn League points until the duty has been completed, subject to the mitigating circumstances.
