The summer continued… nobody got wet, and no bikes needed to be cleaned.

Well done to all at Horwich CC in the mean time for a great course.

Giles Drake improved on his result from the first round of The Lazer North West Cyclo-Cross League to win the Horwich Humdinger at Leverhulme Park in Bolton, Lancashire.

The 30-year-old finished third in the Red Rose Tower Cross last week but took a comfortable victory on a fast course consisting mostly of playing fields.

After one lap, the Leisure Lakes Bikes.com man and junior Adam Hartley (Velocity WD40) were leading the charge and on the second lap, Drake managed to drop Hartley and stayed away on his own.

By the time he reached the line, he had half a lap on the rest of the field. Hartley was riding his own race in second until Martin Woffindin (Cycle Sport Pendle) bridged across to him on the final lap.

The two riders entered into a competitive tussle right up to the line but Hartley managed to hold on to take second place. Woffindin had to settle for third.

There was another entertaining battle just behind Woffindin with the next four places being hotly contested throughout the race. John Dodgin (Edge Cycleworks) got dropped from the group for a while but came back to beat his rivals to fourth place.

The veteran field was big with 108 finishers but at the head of pack yet again was Adrian Lawrence of Team Elite, recording back-to-back wins to maintain his perfect start to the campaign.

Team Mulebar Girl’s Diane Lee was first woman and in the youth race, it was Blackpool Youth Cycle Association’s Alistair Leivers who took top spot.
