For the second year running, it was wall-to-wall sunshine down south in Cheshire for the Weaver Valley CC event at Pignt Hill in Northwich
Amidst a chaotic start with some riders late to the line and positioning themselves in front of other riders, it took a good lap for the train of 144 starters to settle into the race. Despite riding both run-ups most of the race, it took Tom Armstrong (Wheelbase.co.uk/Cannondale) more than half the senior race to shake off his challengers – with Paul Bethel getting the better of Giles Drake (both Team Elite) and take his accustomed solo victory from a NWCCA record field of 136 Senior finishers.
In the 20 strong Youth event the winner was Matthew Walls from Velocity and the 3-strong U12 event went in a nail-biting last lap showdown Alistair Leivers (BYCA) who kept his head and avoided the massive gears his challengers used in the grassy sprint.
A great day’s racing and the usual great course from Weaver Valley CC
