Liverpool Century Cross – Otterspool Park

Strong winds didn’t deter a total of 91 riders at Otterspool Park on Saturday.

The senior race saw an eventful battle between Dave Haygarth (Wheelbase) and Nathan Millar (Ipswich BC), who both forged ahead early in the race. Millar failed to take full advantage of a 40 second lead gained when Haygarth punctured mid way through the race, and punctured himself just as the Wheelbase rider had fought back just before the bell. After a tough chase, Haygarth enjoyed an easier final lap and crossed the line 55 seconds ahead of Millar.

Under 23 road racing hero Ben Greenwood (Recycling.co.uk) made his ‘cross debut and finished a healthy third after picking his way through the field in the latter half of the race. Ben’s a second claim member of Lune CC, whose Adrian Dalgleish leads the NW league, helped along by a sturdy 5th place.

In the Youth race, Martin Woffindin (Eastlands Velo) again edged out Hamish Fletcher-Cooney (Gill Cycles) by just ten seconds. First U14 was Jack Humphries (Red Rose Olympic).

Best Under 12 after almost eleven minutes of racing was Ribble Valley’s Sam Turton.
