3 Towers ride – a grand day out
Update after today’s ride from Dave Headon, Horwich CC – 4 Season Cycles.
- hopefully a great day had by all?
- about 40 riders took part, a new record.
- youngest rider was Jed Hartley’s promising youngest son age 11 years.
- youngest of two females was accomplished under 16 cross rider Jessica from Birkenhead North End, who was well up near the front on the climbs and descents most of the day.
- it barely rained at all, some bits of occasional sun, quite windy in places.
- muddier than usual, and more puddles
- we did the route in reverse, which was interesting,
- some great scenery – if you noticed it?
- lots of climbs and lots of downhills
- I think everyone managed a good workout from it
- a few too many stops for the strongest riders ideally, it’s just hard to keep track of a big group across all the moorland terrain if we don’t regroup. We did split into two groups later on, this was hindered a bit earlier on by Eric having a mechanical and having to nip home for a new wheel.
- it was great to make some new friends, and meet the old friends as well.
- no injuries of note, a few tumbles into grassy areas etc
- it was perhaps most pleasing to see how some of the young riders are developing in fitness and skills,
see you all next week at Preston for a great season opener by Red Rose and Colin Humphries
