Preview: NWCCA finale – Buile Hill ‘Cross, Salford, 29 Jan 2022
It’s the last day of skool, and Buile Hill CX promises to be a cracking finale to the end of the first “proper” cyclocross season since COVID!
You can expect bumpy, thrilling racing around a tight and technical course, designed with Rob Allen of Leisure Lakes Bikes. Every corner, camber, berm, sandpit, hurdle, hill, and stretch of singletrack is contained inside the former pitch-and-putt golf course at Buile Hill park. Spectators will be able to watch all the thrills and spills on Salford’s “Super Mario course” from lots of viewing points around the course.
We’re delighted to say that there are more entrants to this final round of the NWCCA for 2021/22 than any previous year at Buile Hill – so expect to see bags of action across the whole day with everything to play for to secure those final league placings.
The park is about a mile from Junction 2 of the M602. From the roundabout off the motorway, follow signs for Pendleton, towards Eccles Old Road, and past Salford Royal hospital. At the crest of the hill, with the park on your right, turn into Manor Road, then Dronfield Road, to the carpark and sign-on at Pendleton College (Dronfield Rd, Salford M6 7FR). The college is 5 minutes walk from the course itself.
The college is charging us to use their car park, so we have to charge everyone £2.00. Please bring change, if you can. All leftover proceeds will go to the prize fund.
Please do not try to park inside the grounds of Buile Hill – Salford Council, which owns the park, insists on keeping the area clear for other users on the day. Remember: sign-on is at the college car park.
Tea, coffee, all-day breakfast barms (veggie ones, too), soft drinks and cake will be available from the wedding venue behind Buile Hill Mansion. Follow the signs to the entrance. It’s a minute’s walk from the pits.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Salford – have a brilliant day!
