NWCCA Coaching session 3 – Wednesday 1st Oct

Focus for tonight’s session in the wet: Safe, smooth dismounts and remounts; intro to hurdles, and ‘next level’ hurdles without dismounting, for those who want to try

We will again have a mixed ability and age group of adults and children, so will do our best to differentiate and help all riders get lots from the 90 minute session.

Below is the outline plan – we will aim to adapt depending on the turnout and yes, it’ll be muddy.

07:00 start at this location https://bit.ly/marlpitscx in Marl Pits, Rossendale

NB Traffic in Rawtenstall centre is heavy due to road works. Allow extra time.

0:00 – 0:10 | Warm-Up

  • Easy laps, with a few short accelerations.
  • Cornering recap.
  • Fun: weave between stakes in pairs.

0:10 – 0:20 | Core Intro

  • Dismount demo: step-through and non-step-through at walking pace.
  • Remount demo: smooth hop/step-on (stress on safety, no saddle slams!).
  • Riders copy at very low speed.

0:20 – 0:50 | Drill Progression

  1. Dismount to jog → remount at slow speed.
  2. Increase approach speed gradually.
  3. Add a small hurdle/line on ground to mimic barrier.
  4. Progress to low hurdles.
  5. Split groups:
    • Easier: repeat dismount/remount slowly for control.
    • Advanced: faster approach, dismount, carry, smooth remount.

0:50 – 1:10 | Application

  • Mini-loop (30–60 sec): ride → dismount → barrier → jog → remount → sprint away.

1:10 – 1:25 | Race Simulation

  • Relay format: riders take turns over barriers → tag next rider.
  • Focus on speed under pressure, fun and competitive.

1:25 – 1:30 | Cool-Down & Debrief

  • Easy laps together.
  • Quick discussion
  • Preview next session (linking skills at speed).
