National Trophy Round 2: Ipswich – Good day’s work for NW riders.
Travelling the long distance to Ipswich didn’t prevent a fantastic day out for the North West riders, in the second round of the National Trophy.
A family double saw Roy Hunt (right) and daughter Amy (left) take wins in the V50 and women’s races. Amy’s first national Trophy win was a sweet victory after a thrilling two-up sprint. Roy had to work that bit harder this time round after an early crash left him chasing Barry Kipling for most of the 44 minute race.
In the junior race, Jonny McEvoy unshipped his chain in the technical wood section and spent 30 valuable seconds pulling it from his spokes. Chasing hard all race to catch first year junior Alex Paton, Jonny was eventually third after a sprint for second with national champ David Fletcher.
The technical course provided some big time gaps in the senior race, with more than half the field lapped by flying german visitor Malte Urban (Focus). In the sprint for second place, Ian Bibby (above left) lost out to three race-long companions and had to settle for fifth. Three Wheelbase riders Lewis Craven (8th, pictured right), Rob Jebb (10th pictured here) and Stuart Reid (13th) rode their socks off to take the team prize, making the long journey worthwhile.
