Hope Tech ‘cross @ Barnoldswick Saturday 16 Sept – Preview

Organiser Dave Haygarth and team NWCCA welcome you to a special league race taking place as part of a weekend of ‘cross, brought to you with the immense help of Hope Technology. As a prelude to a day of UCI racing on Sunday 17th, Round 2 of this year’s league will take place on a compact and exciting course.

The venue – perhaps now legendary for last year’s National Trophy ‘frost-gate’ event back in December, is a corker for tight, nasty turns, fast straights, and technical riding, even in the forecast continued dry weather.

With only a few bits of rain forecast in the week, we can all expect pretty dry conditions, but the mornings are likely to be very slick with dew and any damp from the week’s showers.

Venue

Rolls Royce Leisure Centre, Barnoldswick, Lancashire, BB18 6HU

Registration:

Advance entry on-line via www.britishcycling.org.uk HERE. Entry closes 11:59pm on Tuesday 12th September and no late entries will be accepted

Sign On

In the main building, right by the event village (see map). If you have not ridden a NWCCA race, then please remember that you’ll be on a borrowed timing chip and numbers – BOTH the chip AND the numbers need to be returned after the event. (The timing chip can go under your sock…!)

Parking

There is NO ACCESS BY VEHICLE to the venue itself. PLEASE PARK where shown below. The ‘Access’ points shown on the course map are for cycle or foot access only

Parking is marked as below on Ghyll Lane – DIRECTIONS HERE – just to the east of the venue. If you wish to camp overnight, for the next day’s racing, you may do so here, but note, there are no toilet facilities on the car park area – these are all in the event venue.

Race times and course practice

We have a few more guests than usual in our NWCCA events, so here’s the race timetable. As with any cyclo-cross races, please do not ride on the course when events are taking place – at all, ever!

The course will be open for practice at 9:15am.

Course

The main course for over 12 riders is as below, and will be the same as Sunday’s UCI races

For Under 10 and Under 12 riders, the shorter lap below includes some steps, and a tricky bank, so keeps the riders on their toes

… and for our under 8 riders, quite a lot of pedalling, and a couple of tricky gradients to deal with. All in good view of parents or helpers.

Catering and Event Village

A number of trade stalls will be available, and catering on site is available from
Tom’s Coffee | Palomino Pizza

A licensed bar is available across the road from the venue at the Roll’s Royce Social Club, and attendees are very welcome to visit the facilities.
