Youth Inter-regional Champs – expressions of interest sought to ride for your region

Exciting news for our youth riders.

This year will see the long awaited return of the cyclocross inter-regional competition which will be held at round 4 of the National Trophy series at Clanfield, Portsmouth on 7th and 8th December 2024.

Teams of up to 8 will be made up of 4 U16 open and 4 U16/14 girls who will represent their region by participating in 4 events to be run over the 2 days. The races will consist of a long race (national trophy race on Saturday daytime), a sprint race (floodlit on Saturday evening), a skills challenge (slalom style on Sunday morning) and a handicapped team relay (Sunday lunchtime). Previous national level racing is not essential, and the team will not be picked on results alone.

We want our riders to have the opportunity to represent their region, participate in a great team event, make friends, have fun and improve their racing abilities. Riders would be expected to make their own way to the races each day but the they will be supported by the North West team of coaches/team manager/volunteers while they are there so parents would be able to watch and support the team during the races.

Entry fees – and a contribution to travel expenses will covered by NWCCA.

Expressions of interest should be made by the rider to seg@grimshaw.org.uk including their previous CX race experience, what they can bring to the team and why they would like to participate. To qualify for the North West team your BC licence must show you as residing in the North West region, it doesn’t matter which club you ride for.
Our team needs to be submitted by Nov 18th at the latest so we need expressions of interest to be submitted by 11th November, in order to review and allocate places

We are currently working on the finer details and hopefully some funding so further details will be made available as soon as we have them. In the meantime feel free to ask any questions you may have.
