NWCCA Coaching session 5 – MONDAY 27th Oct

APOLOGIESS again for having to rearrange from the Wednesday slot. Unavoidable. The training is 7pm on Monday 27th. Thanks for those of you voted for a date over the l;ast couple of days

Focus: Line choice, overtaking, run vs. ride decisions
There could be a lot of chatting…. bring your thinking caps.

We will again have a mixed ability and age group of adults and children, so will do our best to differentiate and help all riders get lots from the 90 minute session.

Below is the outline plan – we will aim to adapt depending on the turnout.

07:00 start at this location https://bit.ly/marlpitscx in Marl Pits, Rossendale

0:00 – 0:10 | Warm-Up

  • Pursuit laps (catch the rider in front).
  • High cadence accelerations.

0:10 – 0:20 | Core Intro

  • Demo & discussion:
    • Overtaking lines (inside vs. outside).
    • Where to dismount vs. ride.

0:20 – 0:50 | Drill Progression

  1. Overtaking practice in corners (pairs).
  2. Inside vs. outside line games.
  3. Run vs. ride drills on a bank or short climb.
  4. Split groups: beginners repeat controlled overtaking; advanced experiment with tactical choices.

0:50 – 1:10 | Application

  • Scenario laps: coaches set sections where riders must choose line/run/ride.
  • Riders compare choices afterwards.

1:10 – 1:25 | Race Simulation

  • “First lap chaos” – mass start into crowded section with barriers/corners.

1:25 – 1:30 | Cool-Down & Debrief

  • Easy spin.
  • Quick Q&A: “When did running save time vs. riding?”
