Preview: ‘Another Fine Mess’from Barrow Central Wheelers
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Glaxo, Ulverston, postcode LA12 9DR for ‘Another Fine Festive Mess!’ BAE has recently purchased the Glaxo site, but the good news is the sports site is continuing in its current format and will only be bigger and better in the future. This is also good news for our annual cyclocross event, which they really enjoy supporting. The weather forecast looks favourable, with no predicted storms or sub-zero temperatures. It is the same weekend as the annual ‘Dickensian Festival’ in Ulverston for those who want to make a weekend of it.
COURSE
The course is a mixture of grassy banks with a solid base, muddy grass and around the back of the clubhouse, there is a more technical section through some trees. The map is currently showing the same course as last year, but we may alter this to use the ‘old hockey pitch’ as per previous years (to the left of the start on the map). Basically, the course should have something for everyone. Youths will be riding the full course with U8/10/12, starting from near the pits just to use the clubhouse loop.

FACILITIES
Please respect them as much as possible. Please do not ride bikes or walk on any of the sports pitches in front of the club house. The course is on the bankings away from the pitches so there is no need to be on them.
CAR PARKING- Read carefully as if issues could jeopardise future use of facilities.
There are two car parks, a smaller one close to the clubhouse and a larger one just off the roundabout as you arrive at Glaxo. We are permitted to park in GSK’s main car park for no extra fee. We have strict instructions from Glaxo- Please reverse park into spaces and do not warm up in the car park. The entrance bollards will be up, and there will be marshals to show you where to park. Please be careful making your way to the course, which is close, but across a road.

PLEASE SEE BELOW WITH MORE PARKING DETAILS
PITS/START AREA
The pits are in the central position again to help make the course more workable for all races. Due to issues with intruders on the site over the year, the separate entrance to the pits is now closed. Be aware that it is a good 10-minute walk from the main car park. There is an outside tap near the finish area.
REGISTRATION
This will be in the club house.
PODIUMS
We will try to take podium pictures directly after every race. Please come to finish area if you finish in top 3 or listen for announcements on PA.
FACILITIES/CATERING
There are changing rooms which can be accessed from a separate door to the main club house door, or you can go through the main door. Please be aware of this, especially if full of mud. They do appreciate that there will be muddy people around, but we can do our best to minimise this! Hot/cold drinks and sweets, etc, will be sold in the clubhouse, and we have one caterer coming to sell hot food.
FIRST AID
Furness First Aiders will be providing first aid support.
Finally, we are looking forward to welcoming you all and it will be well worth the trip to the most northerly leg of the league!!
Graham and the BCW team.
